Fall Out Boy: folie à deux
Finally the follow up to fall out boys superb “infinity on high” is here & it was worth the wait. The title of the album comes from a psychotic disorder where a form of madness is shared by two people & the album art shows just that. Sounding less punky is not a bad thing when it comes to a band like fall out boy & indeed maybe it was holding them back, the sound of fall out boy now is more clean but still retains a pop feeling to it with a little bit of 80s influences. Sounding at times like a cross between duran duran & Justin timberlake fall out boys latest work is the perfect mix of rock opera that has the potential to beef up their fan base, I liked infinity on high but I wasn’t really blown away by it I felt the band was too punk influenced & too afraid to develop their own sound. Songs like “tiffany blew” & “coffees for closers” provide a great mix of radio rock that will make you want to get up & dance, the guitar work & drumming provides for some dizzyingly brilliant hits that will guarantee the band all the radio air time they need. Songs like “I don’t care” is more popy sounding with nice big glam beats..at the same time it sounds a little like new order to me, “w.a.ms” is maybe the only sound I disliked - it features pharrel & I really don’t like the fade out of the song..it sort of crushes the mood of the other songs, really that’s the only mistake on the album. “west coast smoker” is a great little tune with awesome guest vocals by blondies debbie harry, it’s a nice ending to the album & makes you want to pop the CD back in & press play again.
